Ghost Squadron

(Liberty Station/Sentinel)

As the engineers finish cutting passage ways out of the rock the makes up Liberty Station, transports begin to land in the recently completed hanger bay. The deck monkeys unload crate upon crate using the hydraulic loaders. Crates marked agricultural, hazardous waste, non-recyclable refuse, and even coffins are placed on the hanger floor. As the techs open the assortment of crates they begin the long process of sorting and assembling the parts that would for a squadron of X-wings. The techs have most of what they need to get the ships ready the main component being old fashion 'elbow grease'. It is what arrives on the next transport and the ones to follow that cannot be stolen, borrowed, or fabricated in a machine bay...pilots.

Pilots who are willing to fight and die, so that their families and the families of every race in the galaxy can live without the oppression of the Empire.

Each pilot walks down the gangplank of the transport they arrived on, carrying one duffle bag. Their whole life stuffed into a 21" by 36" canvas bag. The one possession all of them had brought was the desire to see the Empire and its minions crushed. Each person is lead into the mess hall and given a meal, 12 in all. All 12 would come together to form the Rebel's first fighter squadron. One squadron consisting of two wings of 6 fighters. Two wing leaders; Red leader and Gold leader, named for the color of the rock and sand of Liberty Station. As all of them sit eating and trying to 'break the ice' it is very noticeable that everyone came from very different backgrounds. Some were farmers, merchants, traders, even one person of apparent wealth and influence. Many different backgrounds, races, home worlds, and even different genders. The commonality was their ability to pilot fighters and desire to crush the Empire. They had all either escaped from their home worlds, left their families in the night, or even faked their own death. So that the Empire would not hold the families responsible. 12 persons, all ghosts to the lives which they had once lead.

And so the 'Ghost Squadron' was born. In the days to come other squadrons will come to be, but there will only be one 'Ghost Squadron'.
