The FP1 (fighter pilot one) is the senior pilot for the squadron wing and is the person responsible for the squadron's performance during a mission. All other pilots in the squadron, report to her/him, and the FP1 in turn reports to the Chief Tactical Officer (CTO). The CTO provides the wing commander with the mission objectives and targets which the FP1 distributes to the rest of the fighter wing. Once an operation is underway, the FP1 is in total charge of the mission unless otherwise instructed. The FP1 person is the 'Wing Leader' for one of the 2 wings of a squadron. If both squadrons are launched then the FP1 becomes 'Wing Commander', taking command of both wings.
When not executing a mission, the FP1 may be assigned to other duties as directed by the CTO or other senior officers. The FP1 also is responsible for the well being of her pilots, making sure that their needs are met. Although the chief mechanic sees to the fighter ship's mechanics, the FP1 should be knowledgeable in their maintenance and general readiness.
